It was November 2007 on a business trip that I decide it was time to get back in shape. I went to the hotel workout room to run on the treadmill to see just how far I could go. Struggling to get the odometer to turn over 1 mile, I quit totally exhausted realizing just how fat and out of shape I had gotten. With 1 mile as my baseline, I knew it could only get better. Mainly due to the pain in my legs from carrying around an extra 50 or so pounds while running, I decide to start riding a bike and swimming. In April of 2008, I did my first sprint triathlon. I then joined Tri4Him and started going on group rides, runs, and open-water swims. I quickly caught the triathlon bug. I completed a few more Sprint distance races and an Olympic. In November 2008, I decided to sign up for the Florida Ironman scheduled for November 2009. I had one year to train for the Ironman, and I knew it wouldn't be easy. I started off the year training on my own with a "free" training plan I had downloaded from the internet. That plan was a disaster and resulted in a knee injury from run too many miles in too short amount of time. That's when I contacted Tri4Him about a customized training plan for a half Ironman distance race, Kansas 70.3 in June, and a full iron plan to prepare me for Ironman Florida later in November. With the TriLife Eternal training plans, I was able for the first time to have specific goals and the ability to measure my progress. Having a family, job, and other responsibilities, I needed a plan that would fit into my lifestyle which the TriLife Eternal plan did. In addition, the plan provided me a race strategy based on pace and heart rate and not on just what I thought I could or should do. I was able to complete both the half and full distance Ironman races as scheduled and did so with condfidence. In the process of all my training, I lost close to 50 pounds and achieved my goal of becoming an Ironman. In two years, I went from only being able to run 1 mile to finishing a 140.6 mile race. The only way I was able to accomplish my goals was with through my TriLife Eternal Training Plan and and the support of the Tri4Him Community. |
